Japan Tips

The Japanese currency is the Yen. You will not be able to pay with other currencies around here. You can find these little houses in Akihabara and other places that will exchange money for you, but I would stick with the official sources of cash: banks and legitimate exchange offices at the airports. Please note that foreign credit cards don't always work with Japanese ATM's. If you are going to use a foreign emitted card, please use the ATM's at Japanese Post Offices, Citibank offices and at Seven Eleven convenience stores.
In practical terms: 
 
  • A rice ball, the typical Japanese snack will cost between 100 and 140 yen
  • A 500ml bottle of water 100-120yen
  • A menu in Mcdonalds 550-700 yen
  • A beer in bar 500-1000 yen
  • A bus ticket 200 yen.
  • A train ticket for about 4 stops 160 yen
